Our site appears on first page on Google in One Country, but not in other countires. What should we do to get on first page in all countries?

We started with a site focused on India. We rank quite well on revenue generating keywords in India. We write a lot of blogs, create financial models and make them open source (This content and has an international appeal). This does generate quite some traffic for us (~35% of our traffic is search generated). Now we are looking to expand in other countries (US and Middle East). But when we search in US/ Middle East, we do not figure in the first page (Hence lower search traffic from US/ Middle East). Why does our site not appear on Google in other countries? What should we do so that our site does appear on Google in the US and Middle East as well?

Answer:
The answer depends on the way that you structured your site. You should use *sitename*.com as your main website You will also need to structure your site around geographical locations, and not languages for example. Having geo targeted folders is a good idea: *sitename*.com/us *sitename*.com/ca etc. As well it would be good to use meta language tags on your pages if they are in different langues. As well, very important is to have content for the different geo location sites have correct spellings of words (eg. some countries may all speak english but have different ways to spell words)

Before this you have optimized for one country, so that's why your keywords appear in that reason. For keywords rank globally you have to do work targeting globally. For this write content accordingly. build link in other country sites like USA, UK, Australuia, etc. Bring traffic from all over the world not only from one region.

First, you should understand that there is no such thing as a "global" search rank. Google presents individualized search results to users based country, language, personal search history, and many, many other factors. So, what one person in India sees will be very different from what someone else in France sees. (The best idea we have of a "general" rank is to used non-personalized results for a given country or specific location.) The key is to build a network of websites and different root domains (based on the TLD of each country). Your India website should be (I think) site (dot) co (dot) in. Your US website should be site (dot) com. Your UK website should be site (dot) co (dot) uk. And so on. Look up the TLD for each country you want and use that URL. Make sure that you "tell" Google that all of these sites are part of one company by interlinking to each of them in your header or footer, registering all of then with Google Webmaster Tools (and country-targeting there), and so on. (You can copy and translate the content from the first site onto each additional site without worrying about content duplication or spam penalties -- as long as Google knows that these are all a network of your sites.) Then, you want to build authoritative links to each individual site from sites in that country. If you sell widgets, then you want links to your French site from other French sites about widgets. And so on. This is all basic 101-level stuff.
