What are the main responsibilities of an Analyst in a Venture Capital firm?

• I have researched a lot about this topic, and I don´t see a clear answer to this, so it would be nice to read a concise response to this. To become in an Analyst in a Venture Capital firm , you need some technical and soft skills united of course to your network.   As a first year analyst, I can say that in the grande scheme of things, I am responsible for: Deal Flow: I am the first contact point for all incoming Business Plans. I filter through them and see if they meet our Investment criteria. I then place the plans in the "Looks Interesting", "Naah" or the "Umm..." pile. I then send out "Thank you but this is out of our investment scope" emails to the "Naah" pile. I then spend time poring through the remaining plans to completely understand them and the industry. I create a one page summary in a pre-determined format for all these plans, which I will then present to the Associates and/or Managing Partners in the weekly meetings. If things go well at the meeting, I make contact with the concerned start-up and bring them in for a detailed discussion. 2. Portfolio Companies: I support the companies we have already invested in, in any way necessary. The type of work really depends on the company and can range from solving strategic issues to helping with business development. I also assist in Portfolio controlling. 3. Database Management: I maintain and develop a database of investors and VC firms. Smaller VC firms usually like to do combo investments alongside other investors, depending on the risk appetite, and having a database of contacts which you can cross reference is important.  4. Marketing: An important factor in a VC's success is its ability to market itself to both potential investors in its funds as well as to the start-up scene. This ensures both a good in-flow of capital as well as deal flow. This is done through various methods like promotions through social media platform, blog posts et al, as well as attending/sponsoring/creating events. 5. Business Cards: Yes, I hand out business cards like a maniac. The cashier at the supermarket didn't appreciate me slipping one with the cash. On a daily basis, I do a random mix of the above among other minor administrative tasks.
