What is science research all about?

Is there any serious/genuine research being conducted on Ayurveda by any institutes? If yes then, what kind of research is being done and if not, why not? What kind of research needs to be done to see a better future for this age old medical science of India?

  • Why didn't Ayurveda get it's due justice? What went wrong in making people understand or realise the importance of this knowledge base? Can we see a better future for Ayurveda and ultimately the mankind, if we undertake rigorous research in this field?

  • Answer:

If you are asking for research the modern way then it is better people don’t waste their time and money. Ayurveda is India’s age old personalised lifestyle and medicine system. Therefore, the first thing that does not work in Ayurveda is one size fits all; you cannot have something like 99% efficacy in the subject population. If you want to base your research on statistics then sorry, it is never going to give you any results and Ayurveda is about using the properties of medicines wherever they are a perfect fit for a condition, and this also means one medicine is used in a variety of cases. Ayurveda takes into account many variable which unfortunately modern medicine does not and hence basing Ayurvedic research on modern parameters is a foolish thing to do.

To quote Tim Minchin: "By definition”, I begin “Alternative Medicine”, I continue “Has either not been proved to work, Or been proved not to work. You know what they call “alternative medicine” That's been proved to work? Medicine.”" When we find something that works reliably it gets folded into medicine rather quickly. For example, the ancient remedy of chewing willow bark to cure a headache was systematized with the discovery of acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) which is now available at all drug stores.

No serious research is going on. Just stop wasting your time and do some other work. Anything other than this will be constuctive. No one wants to do research here.
