What are your experiences on finding a good paying guest in Bangalore? Do you book it before reaching there or after?

1. Ask your office people : send a mail and enquire about if any employee(s) inside office looking for roommates , hr can help you send this mail to internal mailing list. 2. Find roommates from sites like sulekha,quikr. Before finalizing , call them on phone and enquire more about them through web(linked in , Facebook) 3. PGs here ask for 2 months rent in advance , it's better you come here , stay for a day in some guest house or hotel and then finalize . Place you live, can decide your day. All the best !!

Unfortunately I got stuck with a bad one during my short stint in Bangalore. Be very careful while looking for PG in this city,just don't get lured by some startup brand or something,always make an informed decision. Do try food first before finalizing any PG otherwise you might face issue later.Power backup is another thing which you should always look for.http://zelo.in/ (Never try these guys they serve pathetic food and are over expensive)Edit 1: Recently they came up with another “Zelo” rule and that is the day when “Egg curry” will be served in dinner, a person can’t take more then one egg in his plate. I seriously can’t understand how can a person in his/her “senses” can make such a rule considering the fact that out of 7 days in a week the kind of food they serve person anyway doesn’t eat more then 3–4 days in the PG and they know that.Still!

When i had to find PG i took half day break from my office and searched all the PGs in BTM. I went to PG, inquired about food, checked the status of room, bathrooms kitchen etc, checked the locality and then decided. In Bengaluru PGs are not hard to find but it is difficult to find good ones. Don't rush to settle down in PG, take your time. Ask your colleagues if they know any, check out for location which is most suitable for you. It is good if you take PG where you can cook yourself(Kitchen facility).

I would totally recommend anyone trying to close in on a pg to atleast have a taste of the food first before moving in. Don't be duped by he words of any so called operations managers that these new startups have started employing. Taking the startup http://zelo.in as an example we were duped by it into believing that they will serve us both the north and south indian food while after moving in we discovered that they have a mix of both and not the separate options which their operations manager promised. The food is pathetic at the best with other hidden costs. No power backup, a fix amount of data per person and extra water and electricity charges if you exceed Rs.250/- a month. What's even more great is that they put the notice in the backdate. We moved in the PG in April while they are now pasting the notices dated back in March with extra terms and conditions. On top of that the rooms are pretty poorly ventilated too.Most of the channels on the TV they provide won't be subscribed to. All in all they are running a fine business of duping people over here. Avoid Zelo PG's at all costs. We are stuck, you don't need to be.

With the number of Pg's Bangalore has it is difficult to find the right one. Its best to personally see it and scrutinize the neighborhood to make the right decision. Because, once you have shifted , its not as easy task to re-look and re-shift again. You can log on to http://www.grabhouse.com  , and list your requirement , they are a broker-free real estate portal that have only verified listings, which help you in saving time and money. I was assisted by them during my house hunt days , and was very happy with their service.

It would be better if you arrive one or two days earlier. I too faced the same situation when I was about join. Luckily, one of my friends went Bangalore a week before the joining and made an inquiry about the near by available paying guests. We got an affordable one.
