Are Bitcoin Block Hashes Predictable?

Is the father of Bitcoin really the Shinichi Mochizuki who claimed to solve abc conjecture which has definite relationship with cryptography the Bitcoin block hashing algorithm are based on?

  • Bitcoin inventor Satoshi Nakamoto's real identity may have been opened up. It's the great mathematician, research professor of Kyoto University named http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinichi_Mochizuki. Every three years or so , he throws to this world some of his works that baffle everyone. He was also very well known for his claim of solving "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abc_conjecture".  Now this abc conjecture is closely related with cryptography (http://rjlipton.wordpress.com/2012/09/12/the-abc-conjecture-and-cryptography/) on which the bitcoin block hashing algorithm totally depends on. Mochizuki calls the theory on which his proof of abc conjecture is based "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inter-universal_Teichm%C3%BCller_theory"-another mind-boggling theory Experts were expected to take months to check Mochizuki's new mathematical machinery  which was developed over decades in 500 pages of preprints and several of his prior papers and which is also full of puzzling, unfamiliar mochizuki words like " even unknown to great mathematicians. Watch this video by Ted Nelson. It's not affirmed by mochizuki yet!!! But anyone can find a strong connection between bitcoin and Shinichi Mochizuki, hopefully the Satoshi Nakamoto. http://mathoverflow.net/questions/106560/philosophy-behind-mochizukis-work-on-the-abc-conjecture

  • Answer:

Some people, like Ted Nelson, think so (warning: long rambling video): I'm not so convinced. Bitcoin is a major breakthrough in computer science and distributed systems, but it's an application of pretty basic cryptography, not a breakthrough in cryptography itself. The cryptography it uses isn't even particularly exotic. Of course it's possible an highly intelligent mathematician could invent Bitcoin, but I wouldn't say it's any more likely than a highly intelligent computer scientist.
