What are the innovations in blogging software after WordPress?

Today it seems that the answer to the question "What blogging software should I use?" is WordPress. Any new features you want in blogging? There's likely to be a WordPress theme or plugin for it. Or, if not, your best bet is to write your new functionality as a WP Plugin. Is this true? Or are there alternative blogging platforms with their own unique advantages? (NB : I don't mean Tumblr or Blogger, I know there are some historical platforms out there. I mean are there new ideas and hot new platforms in blogging?)

No there won't be another Wordpress. I mean blogging itself is pretty well documented nowadays and Wordpress evolve far beyond blogging. You can use WP for endless uses: classifieds, real estate, static website, and so on... But on the blogging part, the heart of the Wordpress system, I don't see any revolution coming. WP have a solid developer base, about any web agency in the world can kick you a good WP sites. Note that for the pure blogging part, you can today build a very solid platform with you favorite language very quickly too. Well the problem is not WP, it's blogging itself: it's overdone.
