Is mba tech i.e. dual degree in civil engineering is good to pursue?

What is the best career path to pursue after an engineering degree?

  • I am a second-year Chemical Engineering student thinking about the merits of doing a PhD versus doing an MBA from a good B school, I am interested in working for Unilever/P&G and other large MNCs in product development, supply chain etc. I know MBA is monetarily lucrative since I will be able to pursue a Banking/Finance/Marketing career, but I want to get the best out of my engineering degree. The time frame in which one does a PhD bothers me, the commitment seems large whereas MBAs are shorter programs.

Its appreciating that you are thinking about your future prospects in the second year itself. I could try to answer your query the best way I can. I am also from the same Chemical Engineering background and working in an MNC. Looking to what you have mentioned about career options in FMCG companies or other MNCs, it is not difficult to enter to these companies with what you are currently persuing. But I am a promoter of higher studies so in my opinion you should opt for an MBA because in that case you can combine both managerial and technical skills and can perform best. My current tasks involve techno-managerial skills and without  an MBA degree I sometimes face difficulties. So, I would recommend you to go for an MBA which will help you to grow and perform in different pillars of the same organization. In the end I would also like to say that your interest in the particular field matters the most. So analyze yourself because its you only who can give the best judgement to yourself. Thank you !!!
