What jobs can you have as an architect?

What school and jobs should you seek to become an interior architect?

  • Trying to help a friend who does not have any experience and would love to get some pointers on a. what "first job" she should be looking for b. what the most renowned schools are (bachelor and master) c. whether the master also is needed to make it big.  etc. Thanks a lot for the help!

  • Answer:

Doesn't answer your question specifically, but it hopefully will fill out some more information. So Architecture is different than Interior Design. An 'Interior Architect' is a licensed Architect who happens to focus on interiors. They go to Architecture school, or possibly a special Interior Architecture program within an Architecture school. An 'Interior Designer' is either a licensed or unlicensed interior designer and/or decorator. They go to Interior Design school, or possibly an Interior Design program within a larger art and/or design school. Some states require that you go to a properly accredited program in order to get one of these licences, so it's an important choice to make early on! Obviously, the schools, work experience, and goals can be quite different. One isn't 'better' than the other, at all; they are just different and so your friend should define their interests a little more. Legally in America, you can't call yourself an Architect or use it in your title unless you're actually licenced. So all those 'Interior Architect's or 'Architectural Designers' who aren't licensed are technically breaking the law. It's like being a Lawyer or Doctor, you can't use the title (even in part) if you are in that industry and aren't actually licensed in some way. Yes, tech people, calling yourself a 'Software Architect' is technically illegal, but it's like calling yourself an 'Engine Doctor'; no one takes it seriously (other than within the Tech world) so no one cares to fine you about it!
