    In terms of the Indian legal profession, an advocate is a subset of a lawyer, i.e. all advocates are lawyers but not all lawyers are advocates. A lawyer is, broadly speaking, someone who has received legal education (in other terms, completed at least an LLB.). Therefore, a lawyer may be an advocate, an in-house counsel, legal advisor, etc. An advocate is someone who can practice in a court of law in India. The Advocates Act, 1961 has created a single category of legal practitioners, i.e. advocates. Only advocates (and no other category of lawyers) are allowed to practice in courts and plead on behalf of others, once they obtain the required license.

An Advocate is a person having a law degree and have got his/her name enrolled in the bar list that means he can practice in Courts.But a lawyer means a person having a law degree but didn't enroll his/her name in the bar list, thus he/she cannot practice in Courts.That is all Advocates are Lawyers but all Lawyers are not essentially Advocates.Hope the difference is clear now.Thank You.https://www.facebook.com/DepakJoshiOfficial/
