What programming languages should I learn for Web development?

What is the best programming languages for webpages and which is best for application development?

• I'm a very creative person, but i have absolutely no skills to create the things I can think up. So i'm actually looking for 2 programming languages want to learn 1 Desktop Application programming language and 1 Web programming lannguage for developing interactive social web projects. I'm currently thinking C# and PHP, can one make websites with PHP? Whats the best programming languages for webpages and which is best for application development? I have started learning some Ruby programming in the past, starting reading several books and understood some decent stuff even though i'm still a complete retard on the subject. When i started learning Ruby, i noticed i became quite bored as i progressed, because i didn't see the actual results: real apps that do something) as for HTML the same since i knew i could easlity build websites through web services, and i got really impatient with HTML. Then I switched over to Visual #C, I downloaded The C# Development platform and started doing some tutorial. After a while I noticed that I was as actually making real apps that I was able to execute. So C# seems more interesting to me then Ruby. I'm still a bit speculative on where to continue my learning process.

  For web, to get instant gratifcation, learn jQuery, plus some really basic backend stuff in Python, ruby or php. Or if you want so instant gratification that you don't know what hit you, and you don't mind limiting yourself to a niche environment but just want to do social web stuff now now now, try meteor.js (and learn some jQuery too).
