Answer:
Metallurgical Engineering is a broad field of engineering that deals with all sorts of metal-related areas. It is branch of engineering that deals with a study of science of metals and their properties, including separating metals from their ores, the making and compounding of alloys, and the technology and science of working and heat-treating metals to alter their physical characteristics.Metallurgical Engineers can become a part of the industry that produces, buys, sells refines or manufactures metals or metallic products. In India metallurgical graduates can expect some exciting career opportunities in government undertakings as well as in private companies. One can also be a research fellow or a scientist or professor in various labs and universities located in India and abroad.Apart from the traditional metallurgical jobs, Metallurgical Engineering also has scope in defense, aviation , and nano science. Even quasicrystals were discovered here! Last yearâs noble prize for chemistry went to researcher in this area. You can also go for research abroad if you have decent research credentials.

As we all know that one thing in this world that occupies real time volume in the space is materialAny kind of material, we as metallurgy and materials engineer study about the materials which make the same, we are the runners of mother industries. So this fact is unagreeable by many I would like to share an incidentThe conversation went as suchFriend : Why are you being so proud about a field that has died?Me: Died?! How, can you elaborate?Friend: Computer is the new age my friend, everythings are going online, if you want to become an engineer do this, forget metallurgy Me: So you know much about computers?Friend: hell yeahMe: so how does programming work?Friend: we develop a program using codingMe: where is this program fed into?Friend: computer's chip and mother board and stuffMe: what are chips made up of? What materials? Why certain kind of material are used and why not all, why silver being the best conductor of electricity is much less used than li-si ion batterys in your computers and mobiles, what makes the program etch on the hard drive, why semiconductors are much used in the circuits, what properties should a material possess so as to have eligibility for selection as a material used for chips, what material has better heat conduction of which the current trends of laptops and computers arw designed!? I could ask much more but please answer this firstFriend: I...I don't knowMe: I know.Hope this answers your query! This was more on the philosophical side rather then technical,But what can I say i have a soft spot for metallurgy and materials ;)

There is scope(in terms of employment) only if you have a degree from IIT or NIT. Metallurgy from other institutes may require additional efforts from your side to get into a core company. Future scope would be high only if core companies recognize students from not so popular colleges on par with IITs.

Metallurgical Engineering mainly deals with all sorts of metal related areas. Apart from basics of engineering, the course equips students with knowledge of designing, manufacturing and production of various metal products that ranges from cars and bikes to buildings and plane. There are lots of companies in India doing metallurgy business for example all steal companies offer jobs Material science and Metallurgical Engineering students Major recruiters of metallurgical engineering: Jindal Steel NALCO TATA Steel SAIL Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd HCL Larsons Group John Deere Reliance Industries Ltd. Government organization include ISRO, DRDO, and Railway according to me this stream of engineering offers great opportunities for those who can think beyond text books after acquiring fundamental concepts,no matter you are a boy or a girl..you can explore career opportunities in wide range of companies in India and abroad. ALL THE BEST..!

yes off course, mett branch is the base for any steel industry or iron industry . not a single PSU or any of the steel and iron industry can do without this branch. this year sail had 178 posts for mett students which is highest among every other branch. not only PSUs need them but also in the research field also they have heavy scope. so in my opinion this branch is the need of the hour.

small branch with limited scope...but the advantage is the competetion is less which ensures your success with little enthusiasm and sincerity...employment is granted..a branch where experience counts more. good research scope..
