Is there any link between the rise in pollen and airborne allergies caused by global warming, and the increase in food allergies?
-
Answer:
Warmer weather begets more pollen, so results in more pollen related allergies. Food allergies are a different mechanism. I wonder if it has more to do with living in a more germ free environment. Maybe the immune system needs something to fight every now and then. Our family lived with dirt and hair from our dog - no food allergies. Our friends live in almost sterile luxury - their son is allergic to nuts. Same with the wife's brother's family - their son is allergic to nuts too.
