What is a Content Subscription?

What are the best ways to share content via a board that might exist behind a paywall / subscription?

  • In the old days (2000 - 2006) you used to be able to circumvent paywalls by googling the article ( in say wsj) and then have access to paywalll protected content.  With NYTimes, WSJ, and FT all with enhanced paywalls what is the best way to contribute content to a board while ensuring access?  Print PDF to post on Quora?

  • Answer:

Alas there is no single way of doing this. The whole purpose of the paywall is to prevent visitors who have not paid from being able to read, share, or interact in any significant way with the content. At https://www.paradoxseo.com we often encounter mechanisms that are designed to prevent access ability to various segments of people. These typically include systems designed around segmentation of; paying vs free customers with certain elements and hidden from free accounts. age restrictions for some content. geographical restrictions for the purpose of compliance in regulated territories . Usually the best solution for allowing social sharing and gaining SCO rankings in this 'limited'content, is to provide access to a snippet or summary of the content on the same URL and also ensure that any microdata or schema data can also be read by the browser. In other words, don't lock all the content!

I believe Google's First Click Free policy is still in place. You can use that for a board (I'm assuming you mean a discussion board?), or anything else that has paywall-protected content.
