Is there an ecological model of content distribution strategies?
-
I'm looking for models of content distribution strategies that are broader than the prevalent ones that focus on B2B or B2C from the perspective of a single stakeholder and its strategic objectives. This is like approaching ecology from the wolf's perspective. More general models can aid "disruptive" and "out of the box" thinking, and prime innovators to see new niches and opportunities. More systemic models are not necessarily "ecological" but might be based on or other analytic paradigms. Prevalent Models Content marketing sees content as an adjunct to marketing, which makes it almost become a cost overhead item: What is ? Basically, when you're talking content marketing, you're talking about sharing some of your best stuff (your ideas and experience) in exchange for the hope of being able to make a future sale. Content Strategy is a bit broader but still organization-centered: helps organizations plan for, create, and manage content to support their business needs. Content strategy increasingly involves planning and executing distribution of digital media. The industry is a bit different, choosing content framing to drive sales, typically focusing on a niche market, and forego opportunities that might result from wider distribution.

Answer:
Understanding which are the right online channels to distribute your content is crucial in order to create awareness and drive quality traffic and conversions. To do that, it's better to leave guesswork out of the equation: there is a lot of available data both related to your own content as well as your competitors' content that can help you make the right selection of social networks and groups within those, forums and Q&A communities to promote your content. I recently wrote an article on this, sharing a few tips on how to use data to make decisions around organic content distribution: http://www.blonde.net/blog/2015/03/11/how-to-find-the-right-content-distribution-channels-with-data You might want to have a look. I hope you find it useful!
