E-Commerce in India: Do everyone buy branded products online? And not Non-branded products?

Branded or not branded, some of the things I purchased online are of very poor quality. I wish they should enforce some quality control.  For health related products I will buy only branded producxts and that too of well known manufacturers.

Depends on individual basis, but yes people do buy unbranded stuff. Most stuff on http://ebay.in sells this way as there are certain categories where the brands arent yet established or well known or dont matter. Eg i just bought an anti rust off ebay - branded? No I dnt even care coz it meets my purpose

As most of the Audience who shop online are well educated, have spending capacity, want to buy trendy products & prefer world class service. All above things come associated with a Product when they buy a Branded good but non Branded products always compromise on this part. If its Electronics & Health n Beauty Products its recommended to stay with Branded products only due to Quality Control. Non Branded products can have good sales offline because, user can try there hands on product before buying, service assurance from retailers.Last to last year I bought a Induction Cooktop for my Brother, who was staying in College Hostel, as product will be used roughly, so I don't want to spend more & bought an unbranded ICT as it was less then 1K & serves the purpose. After 3-4 months it stopped working & when we tried contacting Brand (UnBrand) they are no more in market.  

It's depends on product quality, cost and who's types of people buying  . most people trusted on branded product an online. If someone want to buy branded foods product then interested to looking what is product quality and ingredient. Most Curated branded food stuff on http://www.shophop.co.in. some people buy non branded product because there cost is too low then branded product. most of product on Olx.

Well I dont have any data to support what I am saying so I will try to answer this from a consumer's prespective.I as an online shopper - Buy things that I am sure off online (Branded) purely because I know the size / Colour  / Fit would be same. I feel more comfortable that my purchase wouldnt go wrong and wont end up spending a lot of time in sendinhg them back for some reason or other.  This is for Fabric and ClothesNow other categories such as Home Needs or Jewelry - There are really no specific brand I am looking at . I either look for deals or need. If a shopper is driven by the deals they get then why not Un branded Good quality products. But Like I said , I have no data to even know if Branded products are sold more than un-branded

It depends, any online company today is a market place which is trying to bring as many sellers/vendors on board. In such cases, it tends to bring businesses from the smallest place of the country and that particular business could be selling good quality reasonably priced products but is not branded. Apparels & Accessories (bags, wallets, eyewear etc.) categories tends to attract such businesses, and Indians being price conscious can give it a try having liked the offering by the seller (design, quality etc).Many such non-branded products have actually done really well on e-commerce websites. This is not only beneficial to small businesses but it gives a huge variety to consumers to choose from. Because e-commerce companies are targeting consumers from all parts of the country whose buying behavior may not be same and they are price conscious too.
