What are the good online tutorials and books to learn Android development?
-
There are many tutorials available online, though each has a way to present the Android related concepts. A structured tutorial familiarizing the reader with Android framework and guide him to learn development using Android SDK would be most beneficial to people new to Android development.

I recommend starting with Google's design and technical design sites. They describe pretty well how an Android app should look and feel (as of the latest version, ), and the Android platform and capabilities. Each section in both guides is worth glancing over to get a sense of the complete ecosystem. http://developer.android.com/design/index.html http://developer.android.com/guide/index.html After that, check out the API docs. The most important ones to start with are Activity and Fragment, paying attention to the lifecycle diagrams. Then View, Drawable, all the subclasses of View, and the text package. http://developer.android.com/reference/packages.html http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/Activity.html http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/Fragment.html When I encounter bugs or strange behavior in the Android platform, I find it helpful to read the source. I've been using GrepCode for this, but I also have a local copy of the source code. http://grepcode.com/project/repository.grepcode.com/java/ext/com.google.android/android http://source.android.com/source/downloading.html When I get stuck I check the Android bugs database for known issues, the Android developers mailing list, and . I usually find these through . http://android-developers.blogspot.com/ http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/list http://developer.android.com/resources/community-groups.html https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/android-developers See also,

You can try professional android 4 application development if you have basic knowledge of java and android. It's quite good. Although I think that you can learn android by Internet which is cheaper and effective option.

Before answering I will give you my back ground. I am Electrical Engineer (Not a computer science engineer), My job is in steel industry, there is no IT work. Last coding I had done was on my first year of collage (around 5 year back). Suddenly due to some big fall in my career I decided to learn Android programming to develop applications & teach other collage students to program in Android. What I did; I moved to completely isolated place and bought two books. and completed them in about 20 days. I did just programming in those 20 days.
