How do I retain my existing ATT Wireless # and account when moving and I want a local number as my primary phone number?
-
I am in the process of moving and am attempting to obtain a new number in area code (703) XXX-XXXX, while maintaining control of my existing ATT mobile number (917) XXX-XXXX. I called the ATT Relocation Line and they were unable to accomodate my request. I would be happy if I could port my 917 number to Google Voice and not automatically cancel my existing account with unlimited data, etc.. How can this be done? The current policy noted on the ATT website is located here: https://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB63372&cv=820#fbid=iX1CJ1WFbtb Important information about changing your wireless phone number: The fee is $36.00 for a wireless number change. Your contract terms won't change. Your number change takes effect immediately. Callers dialing your previous number hear the following message: The number you dialed is not a working number. Please check the number and dial again. AT&T doesn't offer a feature to provide callers with your new number. Your voicemail box is deleted, including your saved messages and greetings. Please write down any information you want to keep. Your myAT&T online account and *Services will only provide usage for your new wireless number. Features such as TXT-2-PAY, Active Parental Controls, and the National Do Not Call Registry require re-registration. I would be very pleased if I could resolve this issue without having to jump through the hoops to accomplish the retention of my existing line.

Answer:
Here is what i would do. Just get a landline with a new 917 number, then immediately port the landline to Google Voice. Setup call forwarding and you're done.
