To practice English I decided to chat with somebody. I chose a website called Omegle, but all I saw was guys typing "asl" and looking for girls. Is my idea stupid, or is Omegle a bad platform to use for chat?

No, Omegle is not a stupid platform to learn English. It is a horrible platform if you want to learn proper, grammatically correct English idiom, however. There is nothing that beats lots of reading and discussing it with a person of equal or better level. Then again, studying a language can be very dry and theoretical so I actually advise you to go chatting, if only to liven it up a bit.
