I would like to create my own screen sharing app that allows me to extend my desktop window to my Android device, but i don't really know where to start looking, can anyone provide pointers to Java libraries or OS level APIs (*nix or windows) that allow me do so?

Answer:
I'm not sure how you wanna extends your desktop to that device. If it's just for previewing something on the device, there's a tool for designer and developer to preview image directly on the device screen=>https://code.google.com/p/android-ui-utils/ Check out the video tutorial also
