What is the best road route to go to Delhi from Bangalore?

  • I have seen two routes online Bangalore- Hyderabad - Nagpur - jhansi - Gwalior - Agra - Delhi Bangalore- pune - Mumbai - Vadodara - udaipur - Delhi I have heard the road after Nagpur in MP is very bad... Although shorter it would take round about the same time... Which route do u suggest I take ? Good roads is my priority... I will be driving a MUV Tata Winger and would Not mind driving for 12/14 hours... Plz suggest places I can stop at ...

  • Answer:

Although shortest would be through  AP, MP, UP but it is not the best of the roads. I have done this: Bangalore- Pune, came back to Mumbai- Gandhinagar and then Udaipur, Jaipur and Delhi via NH 8. slightly longer but the roads are a dream to drive. We were 2 drivers and did not drive in night. Reached in 3 days. The other advantage of this route is that it is more busy, so safer and there are good dhabas and road side eateries all along which is not true in most part of central India.

I would definitely suggest the second option. I would suggest taking a break at Mumbai and Jaipur/Udaipur. Once you reach Pune, you'll take the expressway which will take you to Mumbai in about 3 hours ( on a weekday) from Mumba. From Mumbai the roads are super smooth and the best part about them are the gradual change in landscape that you'll witness once you go through Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and finally Delhi.

For those searching for details still, the Golden Quadrilateral (aka GQ) route is the best option to travel between Delhi and Bengaluru. It's not the shortest, but is the worth the extra miles and maybe hours too. I did this route in Dec 14 / Jan 15. Travelling with my wife and 2 children, it took us 4 days both via the GQ route (Delhi-Mumbai-Bengaluru) and on our return via the North-South corridor route. Delhi-Bengaluru (GQ) Since it's usually foggy in the mornings, we started late and did a shorter run on Day 1 - Delhi to Jaipur (stayed the night at Hotel Highway King at Bagru, on Jaipur-Ajmer highway). The remaining night halts being Vadodara & Pune. The Pune to Bengaluru stretch is the best part of this route, with a largely amazing road surface and little traffic to bog you down. Pros: Dual carriageway toll roads, almost all the way Fast Cons: Have to pay a lot of toll Passes through congested areas like Delhi to Manesar, Thane-Panvel on to the Mumbai-Pune expressway Bengaluru-Delhi (N-S Corridor) Bengaluru-Hyderabad-Nagpur-Jhansi-Delhi; 4 days. Pros: Less toll to pay Roads through the Satpura range passed through very scenic surroundings Cons: Some stretches are a single carriageways (Maharashtra-MP border to a place called Narsingpur) 40 kms from AP-Mah border into Maharashtra, the road is literally absent. It's all dug up and broken. This stretch was painful. You will have to pass through Agra if you want to drive on the Yamuna Expressway, and that was painful again.

Easiest is to come from Delhi - Jaipur - Kota - Indore - Dhule - Solapur - Bangalore --- I've driven twice in this route from Delhi to Bangalore. It is easy and also it is the lorry route, you will find lot of lorry guys cruising till Bangalore.   Avoid Jhansi, Gwalior route -- You have driveable road till Nagpur, after that it is much worse than wild west could have been. Motorable road is not continuous and also there are many forest areas in-between. Surely it's not for adventure and it appears just perfect setting for Shakti Kapoors, Gabbar Singhs and Amrish Puris.

The best road is crossing Karnataka through Dharwad, entering Pune then Mumbai, Ahmadabad, Udaipur< jaipur and delhi. This is around 2600Kms but roads are good. I did this in three days with two night halts at Pune and Gandhinagar. Jaipur Delhi highway is bad, so suggest you take the alternate route from Rewari there. Other than that stretch roads are great everywhere. Tolls are plenty on this route, thats the only disadvantage but driving would be smooth. You can take short detours to Daman, Lonavala etc if you have time and make the trip more memorable.

You can either either chose the route via Hubbali, Pune, Vadodara, Udaipur and Jaipur or you can chose the route which goes through Hyderabad, Nagpur, Narsinghpur, Sagar, Jhansi and Agra. The first route goes through NH4 (old) and NH8 (old), both these roads and in top class condition. The second route is also quite good, but there are a few stretches where the road condition is bad.The section between Adilabad and Hindanghat (Hyderabad-Nagpur) is in bad condition (it is an accident prone zone which has diversions which are not clearly marked). The work to convert two lanes to four lanes had started a few years ago, but it was stopped by the contractors due to fund crunch. The road between Nagpur, Seoni and Lakhnadon (Nagpur-Sagar-Jhansi section) takes you through Pench National Park where the road has mostly two lanes. But the road is smooth (except on the hills of Pench). The worst part of this route is the Jhansi -> Gwalior bypass section. Road expansion had been stopped for a few years and now it has been resumed. The road is uneven, hosts potholes and at a few stretches it is nonexistent.I would prefer the first route which goes through Pune, Vadodara and Jaipur. If you are going via first route , then I would suggest that you can stay at Pune, Vadodara and Jaipur. If you are taking the second route, then you can stay at Hyderabad/Nagpur and Jhansi. It takes around 14 hours to reach Nagpur. You have to reach Hinganghat, which is 13 hours away from Bangalore, before it gets dark.

The best Route from Bengaluru to Delhi is via NH4 and NH 8. The major cities that one passes through are: Bengaluru-Tumkur-Davanagere-Hubli Dharwad-Belagavi-Pune-Mumbai-Surat-Vadodara-Ahmedabad-Udaipur-Jaipur-Gurgaon-Delhi. The entire stretch is about 2500km which is around 400km longer than the shorter route via Hyderabad-Nagpur-Agra.The major reasons why this route is the best are: The NH4-NH8 route is a part of the golden quadrilateral and the road quality is excellent (all weather roads). One passes through two expressways in the journey (Pune-Mumbai and Vadodara-Ahmedabad). The entire stretch is safe to travel at anytime in the day. 24*7 restaurants dot both the highways. There are hardly any isolated stretches. (I have travelled the entire route by road in multiple journeys and driven for almost half of the 2500km route). One can also travel the entire stretch in 2 Volvo buses! (Bengaluru to Ahmedabad in SRS/VRL, Ahmedabad to Delhi in RSRTC). This route covers 7 of the top 10 cities in India. This route has some of the most breathtaking highway stretches in India. Additionally, there are a lot of attractive tourist spots on the way and also taking a detour.
