I'll add Go Conqr to the list: http://Goconqr.com . It's a suite of learning tools and, though it doesn't focus just on the GRE, it provides resources that will help with the test, such as vocabulary flashcards for verbal reasoning, which you can study on the go with the mobile app: https://www.goconqr.com/en-US/p/4030568. You can also create your own resources and create a group to study with and test friends and other fellow test takers. Good luck with the exam!

Different people have different experiences regarding coaching institutes. Also, it depends upon the area on which you want to work on; Verbal or Quantitative. Best way to have a word with some one from your background who has given exam recently. Alternatively, you can tap into network of students who have recently cleared GMAT on this platform (http://edu4share.com/mentor/list?categories%5B%5D=5&exams%5B%5D=4&q=&sort-by=)

Originally answered on Going anonymous as I don't want my employer to know I took the GRE. My GRE experience: Got done with GRE a few days back. Score: 327(V-157, Q-170) AWA 3.5 Mock test scores range: Manhattan 320-326 Kaplan 312-325 Powerprep 1: 322(Q-167, V-155) Powerprep 2: 322(Q-169, V-153) Prepared for around 4 months with intense preparation for the past one month. Resources: ETS Official Guide(The best prep book out there) Manhattan RC, TC & SE, 5 lb Magoosh(This was particularly helpful. More on that later.) I started with the Nova 400 word list on http://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.memrise.com%2F&h=eAQHcat0X&enc=AZO6i5FP2u4jY8FAkctpgMFDL62Zy6MaICajn-rkWWZIYKajZw2V7LDgHGKl6l2cKqTXUIAysOVrGd__JxxHupmFNM1z_I8lqZPeodrqxotwVBSkkpOxKGG-pfEHXVrukT9N6C36yjxVgSrWChW9llz__8A4MXMl_7ThNo0RL_sxqQ&s=1 Quite a few of these words appeared on the test. Also, I went through the Manhattan 1000, but they were not as frequent as Nova's 400. For Verbal, I went through the strategies mentioned in Manhattan TC & SE and RC book. They were useful. Manhattan contains a few obscure words here and there. But what worked for me was Magoosh video lessons and their explanations to practice problems. I found a huge similarity in the type of questions asked in real GRE Verbal and Magoosh questions, especially RCs. Also, reading vocab in context is necessary and if you read a lot of novels or are a heavy Quora user, that would help. If you plan to give your GRE next year, my suggestion would be to start reading from a screen instead of books. Buy e-books instead of conventional ones. For Quant, I didn't prepare a lot. I just went through a few topics which were unfamiliar such as SD. If you want to practice, 5 lb book is the best. It contains questions of various difficulty levels. For essays, I went through the tips mentioned in Manhattan guide and wrote 2-3 essays and got it graded. You can get your essays graded onhttp://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.testbig.com%2F&h=wAQGunK-B&enc=AZN3hyKh1K8vLAN2nLZ8EIle-qGlocwtVumoz79lnwkUIi7ydkKomUTtqLQL7tMhbkQbnSjwxaHE4iHUaGbunuCrt0nq2BvAAXg1Y7nQkO2tCMuLn_XxK-O8XwTfkhOX_ftvp7TDo6pHouHUZgovP4AB35qih4jkNU-9eW9qxeGqkg&s=1 but I doubt their effectiveness. Another useful trick of getting your essays graded is registering for Princeton tests. Even if you don't take the tests, just write the essays and get them graded, the tips given would certainly help. One major advice, stay calm on the final day, reach an hour early and you'll end up scoring well. My GRE score was my best test score and that's what matters. Well there are many free resources available online for GRE preparation. To name just a few:Scholarly magazines (http://www.scientificamerican.com/ , http://www.nature.com/nature/index.html, http://www.economist.com/ )in different domains of knowledge are something you should go through regularly to do well in the GRE. Becoming familiar with their prose and their vocabulary will help you do well in the Reading Comprehension section and will also have a side-effect in increasing your accuracy and speed in the Text Completion question type.Dictionary sites like http://www.vocabulary.com can help you increase your vocabulary. But they are generic in their content and you are likely to drown in a lot of words.Sites specific to the GRE vocabulary like http://www.facebook.com/knowyourenglish provide a targeted resource that can be useful to you.
