What are some interesting proxy/attendance stories at IIT Roorkee?

There was a guy in our batch whom we used to call 'Tarrr'(maybe because he looked like a frog or something, nevertheless nicknames most of the times are baseless). Whenever the prof called out his roll no, everyone used to shout 'tarrrrrrrrrrrrrr'. While the prof used to get bewilder seeing the response to a roll call, somewhere in the class there  used to be a meak voice saying "I'm present Sir"

This happened in the autumn semester of 2011 inthe class of Computer Architecture when we were in our second year. This was the class of  Vaskarray Choudhary, he had recently joined our department and was trying very hard to be cool. So he told every one that he does not want to impose studies on anyone and those who want to leave the class can go after the class. The classroom was the EC department's auditorium which has two doors(one in the back side). So we used to go out of the class everyday after the attendance. One fine day the prof took attendance as usual I made proxies of 2 of my friends. But prof had learnt that his charm was not working anymore (there were only 20-25 students left out of the class of 130 students so he took the attendance again and a quiz. All of us were suspended for more than a week and marks were deducted from discipline grades. Prof also gave us very less marks in the internals. But I still think I liked that and those 2 of my friends had to suffer for what they had not done. Now they never ask me to give their proxy.

My everyday attendance story during winters as Mtech. student ! I bet this happened with everyone during winters ;)

This is an interesting story .. When I was in my 2nd semester , a subject (PH-101) was taken by Praveen C Srivastava . This professor was new that time and during his initial classes he used to warn us to attend the classes otherwise he will not allow us to sit for the exams . A girl (lets call her by L)  had already left the college during the first semester .So technically her name should have got strucked off from the roll. list but as we all are aware of the slow system of IITs. The irony is that when the list of short-attendance students was declared her attendance was found to be around 76% And she was eligible to appear for the test .

This happened in my 6th semester So, as usual I gave proxy to my friend but to my surprise din't know how but he figured out and called out the name again. None responded , his immediate response was he is not gonna leave us until he will find the culprit. He made us sit down for the next one hour. (class was 5-6PM) By seeing his determination I voluntarily went to him and confessed to him Me: "Sir I gave the proxy" Prof : "No u din't give the proxy and u need not take responsibility for someone else" That was a surprise response to me Me: "Sir I only gave the proxy and I am taking complete responsibility" After a prolonged discussion Prof: "I am still not convinced that u gave the proxy so jst bring your friends sitting around you" while the prof is watching me I go to my friends around me and ask them Me:"just come with me and say to the prof that I gave proxy" Prof asks my friends again if i had given the proxy and my confused friends who were unaware of what is going on actually few said yes and others replied don't know Prof: "Ok I am still not convinced that you gave the proxy but ok write one apology letter for giving the proxy" Me: "ok sir" PS: I was the class representative of our class :D

It was our first semester .We were attending the lecture of "ethics and self-awareness". There was this one student, lets call him K. Generally, the professor never looked up during attendance, and so it was relatively easy to give one or two proxies. On this particular day, many students were absent ,i don't know why. K, feeling super confident(again i don't know why), gave proxies for 7 students continuously before the professor got suspicious. The professor called out the next roll number and looked up. K managed to squeak out "yes, sir". The professor then asked ,"What is your name?". K became mute. He had given all these proxies without even knowing the names of the students to whom he was giving the proxy.The whole class started laughing.The professor, however, was not amused.   The professor called him in front of the class and gave him a good talking to.  From that day on, K doesn't repeat stuff like this though he does give one or two proxies every now and then.

It was my 1yr 2nd sem.The course was electrical related taught by pof Das who takes attendance by name..A friend of mine was good at giving proxys r8 from 1st sem. But he was caught after giving 4 proxys in his class and while giving his own attendance. He was suspended for a week but was unfazed and continued to give proxys in other classes though. Even after 2 years we sometimes recollect it and laugh at how insane he was and wonder how epic it would have been if he got away with 5!

1. This is just a 2 day old story. Mr. G.Sethu Nachiappan enters the embedded systems elective class at some 8: 55 for the class whihc ends at 9:00 from the back door and quitely takes a seat at the back bench. The professor notices. Asks the name and sethu tells it. The professor takes out the attendance register and says as you came in you can now leave, Your attendance will be marked first. 2. 2013 Electrical batch was in their 3rd sem. There was this tutorial of Material Science where students gave attendance on paper and in the end the professor called all the names to cross check. There was this guy named A and a worst looking girl with surname X. Considering the effect of his over reaction to all the bullying he is usually tried with, the mischief of other people came to students giving proxy of AX and the Complete E1, E2 sub batch would burst out laughing every week when the prof called out the name AX loudly. Finally the patience of A broke and he stayed up after the class one day. and then came another fun. It was almost deserted and I was only one to stay back. Sir, wo jo aap naam lete hai na sir, wo please sir, please sir mat lia kariye... please sir , please sir (i think 8 times more would do) and in the end you could sense his voice shaking. wo actually blah blah blah...... hota hai....please sir please sir about 8 times again. Would have cried in the next 10 seconds if he had continued his rant.

You might have heard about people getting caught on simultaneous proxies.But what happened in Civil 06-10 batch was even hilarious.If i remember correctly it was 2nd semester and the Ma102 course.There was this fellow ,lets call him S (No names due to obvious reasons) who spoke a lot,sarcastic,used to irritate others,went to the classes when it was declared a bunk, hence was kind of the centre of a joke most of the times. And so it happens,a plan was put into place. The next day when his roll number came,apart from him ,couple of other guys said "yaaaaaas sir" ,and then to finalize it some others shouted "Proxy laga rha hai ye sir".So in the end whole class was laughing and Mr. S who was present ended up being as absent on the register. P.S-it was evil but those days it was fun and it did not hurt him in anyway because he attended almost all the classes. God ,I miss ROORKEE!
