Is the Google's PageRank algorithm a secret?

Would it be possible to implement a PageRank-like algorithm on Wikipedia?

  • I would like to create a map of Wikipedia based on the relationships of the articles (some what of a hierarchy). Would an algorithm to sort through the body of a Wikipedia article searching for keywords in a dictionary (that's constantly updated) to determine the article's placement on the tree be sufficient to create an accurate image?

  • Answer:

Probably, but you don't need to do it that way - MediaWiki has a table (whatlinkshere) that actually contains all the pagelinks on Wikipedia for each page.
