How many children does the average family have in New Zealand?

Average schooling years for children in New Zealand?

  • Answer:

In New Zealand children must be enrolled in a registered school between the ages of six and sixteen. In practice, children start school at the age of five and are actively encouraged to remain at school until the end of Year 13. Some parents choose to "Home School" their children and must apply for special exemption from the Ministry of Education to do so. All schools follow the NZ Curriculum in each of the curriculum areas and must reach minimum levels of Literacy and Numeracy. A child starts school at age 5 as either Year 0 (July to end of December), or Year 1 (January to end June) They progress through the years numerically. This is not linked to academic ability but Year of Schooling. In total, most children will attend school for at least 11 years. Primary School is Years 0 to 6. The Intermediate years are Years 7 & 8. Secondary schooling covers Years 9 to 13).
