Why does my Chrome browser keep switching the incognito flag off?
-
Google Chrome incognito mode help. I have Chrome set up to start in incognito mode. However, it frequently seems to revert to standard mode. I have ruled out interference from other users. I suspect, but don't know for sure, that it may be caused by spammy websites spawning new non-incogito windows. Is this likely to be the case, and if so, how do I stop it? I'm running Win7 home premium SP1.

Answer:
I think it happens when Chrome updates itself. I, too, have Win 7 SP1, and Chrome shortcut with -incognito flag set up, which kept disappearing. A few weeks ago I set read-only attribute on Chrome shortcut, and the flag stopped disappearing.

When you say 'revert to non-incognito mode' you mean it opens up new windows, and these don't have the incognito mode graphics? Can you describe the exact steps? Also, If you can link to a site where this happens, that might help.

I'm assuming you are using the -incognito parameter from a shortcut? If you have other apps that open the from clicked links they most likely will not use your shortcut and open chrome normally.

"I'm assuming you are using the -incognito parameter from a shortcut? " Yes, this is how I have it set up. However, the -incognito flag disappears from the shortcut when the problem occurs. Is there another way to force all instances of Chrome to open incognito?

I think it happens when Chrome updates itself. There may be something in that. My current session of Chrome is incognito, and I noticed a few minutes ago that Chrome was updating. Now when I check the shortcut, the -incognito flag is gone again. I'll try the read-only thing.
