How to backup remote web server and email on servers?

• Backing up a web server and the email on it to a local machine, how to do? If one is hosting a remote and a private webserver with two websites on it, along with email for various accounts, how does one back up all of the files on the webserver and said email accounts, to a local machine? No need for database backups, they're taken care of my the hosting company. But we're responsible for our files and email accounts. Ideally, this would be automated and the email would retain the folder structure of the various accounts.

  You need to give us more info here - there's tons of different ways to do what you want: * What OS is your server running and what webserver and mailer are you using? * What access to you have to it - command line, web-based control panel or graphical login (e.g. Remote Desktop or vnc)? * What file transfer options are available - FTP, SSH, SFTP or something else? * Do you have any administrative privileges on the server, particularly the ability to run scripts and add cron jobs/scheduled tasks? * Where will your backups end up? * What volume of data are we talking about? If this is a shared host offered by some company, they probably have a standardized way to do what you want - it's just your responsibility to remember to click the button occasionaly, or to configure some scheduled task somewhere and move the resulting files out.
