How do I make a really great facebook page?

• I'm looking for great facebook pages, and tips for making pages great. I run a couple of facebook groups for social groups/clubs (one for a bunch of outdoor swimmers, one for a group of amateur screenwriters) but they've pretty much evolved naturally and don't go beyond members posting stuff they've come across, and posting meet ups. How do you go about making the most out of facebook pages? What tricks/features are there that really make pages more effective? I know regular engagement is important, but what are the best ways of doing that, apart from just making regular posts? Can you give me some examples? I'm not really looking for great topics ("Hey, that's a funny idea!"), but for ways of making the most of what facebook has to offer (or pages that show the best ways of coping with its limitations, if you're not a fan). I guess I'm thinking of various definitions of "great" - good at growing its membership, interesting, engaging, informative, varied. Could be for a club, company, non-profit, interest group. Assume that it must be a facebook page - I'm not really after suggestions about using other platforms. I'm enthusiastic social media user, but don't have much experience in tinkering under the hood.
