Debt/collection agency help: I want to pay off my $1600 debt. What is the best way to go about doing this?

  • Debt/collection agency help: I want to pay off my $1600 debt. What is the best way to go about doing this? I'm young and I've never dealt with a collection agency before. I would like to pay off my old credit card, which is now in the hands of Anchor Receivables Management. What is the best way to go about doing this? What are "pay to delete" letters? Please help. Many thanks in advance.

http://www.creditboards.com/forums/ The best information on the web is on the creditboards forum. Lot's of friendly posters, and good advice on removing these marks from your record. Do NOT call the credit/debt agencies until you do some research. (and preferably never call them. Communicate solely through registered mail)

ShootTheMoon

I cannot re-emphasize STM's recommendation enough. Use registered mail (mildy expensive, yes) and keep copies of every bit of communication you have with them.

GPF

As you will undoubtedly see on CB if you read long enough, it's best to attempt to PFD with the credit card company. Collection Agencies are scum and will screw you at any chance.
