Where is pedra blanca?

Blanca o Brava -- necesito vacacion.

  • FebruaryTravelFilter: Costa Blanca or Costa Brava? I need a little break from whatever it is I do -- and I've found cheap tickets on Ryanair to either Girona (Costa Brava) or Murcia (Costa Blanca). The only place I've been in Spain is Barcelona, and only for a day. I'm looking to relax, maybe gawk at some ruins, go on some interesting walks, spend some time outdoors. Travelling the first week of February, for about five days. (I know it won't be warm -- but it'll be warmer than Edinburgh, and that's important.) Any advice or recommendations? Which area is more intriguing this time of year?

  • Answer:

I went to the Girona on Ryanair about 4 months ago. Girona is a cool town with lots of ancient cobblestone streets and the old Jewish quarter called "The Call". About a half hour to the coast from there. We stayed in the beach town of San Filieu de Guixols. (sp?) in a bungalow cabin at http://www.campingsantpol.com/ The price was right, and close to the beach. Great paella restaurants abound.

I'll second Girona. I stayed at L'Estartit a few years ago, and really liked the area. Provided you stay away from the more touristy resorts like Calella, you'll find that part of Spain (or Catalunya, to be more exact) a great place to visit.

Brava over Blanca, any day of the week. The further South you go, the worse tourism becomes... Of course, the costa of the Costa Brava is as bad as Benidorm on a good day, so stay inland if you can, or at least avoid the Llorets and suchlike. Girona, as has been recommended, is a great city for ruins and history, and you can flip up the Pirineus on a train in a few hours if mountains and cows get your gander up too...
