Any good hotel recommendations for Athens?

Hotel recommendations for Capitol Hill in Denver?

  • Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in Denver, somewhere in or around the Capitol Hill area? Up to maybe +/-$125 a night. Clean, good location to do shopping/sights/etc, but otherwise no major restrictions. My partner and I will be there for a long weekend in December and plan on doing some stuff northwest of Capitol Hill (Buell Theater for Spring Awakening, Denver Art Museum) and southeast of Capitol Hill (Room & Board, Nordstrom). A hotel in any of those areas would be great. I was looking at The Burnsley Hotel on Grant St.--any experiences there? Finally, any recommendations for good stuff for us (two mid-twenties guys) to do in the areas near your recommended hotel? Theater, shops, restaurants--we're pretty open. Thanks in advance.

Downtown, I stayed at the http://www.magnoliahotels.com/default.aspx Prices are listed for $169, but I'm sure you could find a better deal on http://www.kayak.com/hotels or something. It's close to restaurants, LoDo, and the light rail and bus lines. They have a free happy hour too, which was nice, and the rooms are pretty great. That's my recommendation.

There aren't really a ton of hotels in Cap Hill; it's largely residential. You may want to extend your search to downtown, which isn't far off. I can't really help with specifics though. Aside from that, a few favorite restaurants are Mizuna for fancy-fancy, Potager for fresh and local, and Le Central for fun, affordable french food. Pint's Pub across from the art museum for one of the best collections of single malt scotches outside of the UK. If you want a real experience, check out the Columbine Lounge on Federal; it's the best way to eat a steak in the city, and you can do so for about $15. Most of the theater district is condensed into one giant performing arts center. Check out the listings. MeFiMail me if you're interested in trying some locally homebrewed beer.

Also, I ate a Le Central once, and agree that it's good eatin'.

I have stayed at the Burnsley; around 150/night but it was totally fantastic. The rooms are converted residential rooms so they are huge, comfy, and even have kitchens. The hotel bar is also pretty nice and the free parking is a good touch.

Yeah, the thing that stinks about the Magnolia is the valet parking is way expensive. You can park in a lot, several of which are nearby and not terribly expensive, but I did then when I stayed there, and some idiot stole one of my license plates.

Seconding Le Central if you like French food (and mussels in particular). It's reasonably priced and Delicious! I also recommend breakfast at Snooze (a little hipster but amazing food and the best pancakes of your life) and Lucille's (cajun/creole deliciousness).

Brown Palace is a nice hotel in Denver. Sometimes they have good prices too. Check your dates. http://www.brownpalace.com/

I live in Capitol Hill and can get downtown on foot in 10 minutes. So Cap Hill or downtown is a wash, in practical terms. You might check out the Oxford Hotel, it's in LoDo. Within is the Cruise Room, my favorite bar (if extraordinary original Art Moderne gets you going). Don't miss the Museum of Contemporary Art (by David Adjae) in LoDo, and The Vance Kirkland Museum in Capitol Hill. Cherry Creek is about a 30 to 40 minute walk from central Cap Hill. If you have car, it's 10 minutes. In addition to the great recommendations above, consider Z Cuisine. It's just North of I-25 in Highland (5 minutes from downtown). Among foodies, it's the best in Denver (It's the favorite restaurant of the owner/chef of Mizuna). Go to Bump and Grind for breakfast (uptown). Go for a run or walk in Cheesman Park.
