Really Short Video Podcasts

  • Video (or audio) podcasts: really short (3 - 6 minutes) podcasts about everyday life and situations: advice, business, relationships, cooking, hobbies, etc. Help me help my adult ESL students! My adult ESL students love watching video made by and for native English speakers. So far, I've found http://www.onnetworks.com/ (Proper Ollie and Try This at Home), the http://www.theonion.com/content/video/poll_bullshit_is_most_important??utm_source=tv.theonion.com, and http://dailyidea.blip.tv/, but I feel like I've hit a wall. I've been searching for awhile and can't seem to find any other good, short, video podcasts. Do you know of any good ones? Of course I also use audio casts; do you have any leads on audio podcasts that fit the same criteria? To explain my criteria: Three to six minutes because I try and play each clip twice plus do a couple of activities relating to the clip, and anything over five or six minutes doesn't fit into the hour or so slot I have. Podcast: I'm running OS 10.4 and getting podcasts through iTunes. This seems to be by far the easiest way to get video that will play on my computer after I've lost my internet connection. But if you have info that will help me do something similar without the podcast, I'm all ears. General Interest: I'm teaching non-native speaking adults who live in a Spanish-speaking country. They don't have much contact with English speakers outside of my classes. Using general interest videos gives us a chance to discuss vocabulary related to different aspects of everyday life that might not normally come up during class. I'm trying to help stimulate the kind of speaking they might do if they lived in an English-speaking country.

  • Answer:

Not a video podcast, but "The Experts' Guide to 100 Things Everyone Should Know How To Do" by Samantha Etus, if you can find it in audiobook format, might work. Each file is essentially a podcast, 3-6 minutes of things like "how to tie a bow tie" or "do laundry" or "save money" or "take a picture" by experts in that particular area.
