What is the best way to backorder a co.uk domain?

What is the best way to backorder a co.uk domain? There is a co.uk domain name that I really want expiring soon. I hope to snag it before anyone else. I've read up all I can on backordering domain names, but all the articles I've read seemed to be geared towards the highly competitive .com market. Are pool.com and snapnames still the best sites to try and use, or are there better options for co.uk? Also is the way co.uk domains drop the same as .coms ? ie:- after the renewal date the site goes through a 40 day expired status, 30 days redemption period, 5 day deletion period. So its 75days after the renewal date you can actually buy an expired domain? To make matters even more confusing the whois data actually show it be to on a german registrar http://registrar.schlund.info although going to their site all their co.uk domains seem to be handled by http://www.1and1.co.uk anyone got any experience of these companies? This article is very good http://www.mikeindustries.com/blog/archive/2005/03/how-to-snatch-an-expiring-domain

Answer:
Judging by http://www.nic.uk/registrars/renewals/procedure/, if they let it lapse it'll be available for registration about 90 days after expiry. (30 days + 60 days - see "If you do not submit a renewal request" section)

1and1.co.uk is a subsidiary of Schlund. In fact it operates under the IPSTAG of 'SCHLUND' in the .uk registration system. I dimly recall that being a 1and1 customer may get you the option of picking up the domain rather earlier than by any other means -- but don't take my word for that.

being a 1and1 customer may get you the option of picking up the domain rather earlier than by any other means This is very true. If the domain does expire and go into redemption, having a backorder at the existing registrar is your best bet on grabbing it. Give them a call and ask about setting up an account/purchasing a backorder. One last thing. Are you sure the existing registrant isn't going to renew the domain? It'd be an awful shame to pay for a backorder if you aren't sure it's going to be held on to.

how does anyone know if a domain is going to be renewed or not.. thats the whole backordering game. once it goes into redemption its a good sign tho.
