Where can I buy "Graf" ice hockey skates in Midtown, NYC?

Where can I buy ice skates for my big feet?

  • Where can I buy large size ice hockey skates? I want to own a pair of ice skates so that I don't have to try to squeeze my foot into whatever beaten up pair the rink has for rental (usually size 13, sometimes 14). I wear a size 15/16 shoe. I think this correlates to a size 14 ice hockey skate. I haven't had luck finding any online or in store (NYC). Any suggestions?

  • Answer:

    On a whim I tried "skates.com"...and found http://www.skates.com/Riedell-121-Ice-skates-p/rbr-121b.htm in a size 14.

Hm...you said "ice hockey" skates...so maybe try http://www.hockeygiant.com/nbh50sktsr.html instead.

I found 2 pairs of new size 13 mens ice skates on ebay a few years ago for my father and I. They have one pair of 13.5 on there now. They have some large vintage skates from time to time. You probably want to try a pair on before you buy, though, since when you get up to the large sizes there doesn't seem to be much standardization, especially with the width. http://www.nikebauer.com has a dealer list and there are 21 in NYC. Many of them probably have other brands as well.

Great site, I order gear from them all the time: http://hockeygiant.com/ice-hockey-skates-senior-ice-hockey-skates---sizes-6---up.html Rec skates: http://www.hockeygiant.com/recreational-ice-skates.html Interactive size chart for skates: http://www.sportsgiant-dev.com/fitting/skate.asp General rule is get a skate 1 to 2 sizes under your shoe size.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did a random sampling of hockey skate sizes earlier on Hockey Giant and did not come up with anything. Not sure if the one they got will fit (E width instead of D). Odd that Nike Bauer's website says the senior skates only go up to 12, but Hockey Giant sells them up to 15.

I was going to suggest Peck & Goodie on 8th Ave, but it appears they've closed. As much as I hate to recommend them (bitter former employee) http://www.blades.com/ is probably going to be your best bet. We (managers) were encouraged to take every possible opportunity to do a special order, and I bet that hasn't changed so I'd at least give them a call.
