What kind of glue do I use for bubble charm jewelry?

Pin hack?

  • Jewelry hack: keep a pin safely clasped? I'm seeking a NON-permanent way to keep a http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQPz6GBWei0es_s2zPfrHJk_JVSlf0LOlzx9KSMMNqUwpUZ9KqQ (not a pic of my pin, but a pic of the same kind of clasp) from accidentally rotating around and letting the pin open and fall off my jacket. So I can't use superglue or anything like that. Possibly I could use some kind of glue that could easily be dissolved by some substance that won't hurt copper/enamel jewelry. Or maybe a tiny cap of silicone or similar material that fits over the rotating part tightly enough that it can't move, but could be removed by me when I want? Or a tie of dental floss, but done in some way that could be reliably cut off?

    Clear nail polish. Just a little drop. Easy to apply, dries pretty quickly, easy to remove.

Rubber cement would probably work. Just a little dab and it would be easy to get back off. Most glues will be easily removed from metal unless they are specifically made for bonding metal. I make jewlery and glue metal pieces together sometimes and most glues will not hold the pieces together, even super glue.

In the past, I've bent the pin slightly so that the friction of the pin keeps the clasp in the right position. Depends how special the pin is!

You could also try squeezing the part that rotates with pliers until it's bent enough that there's some friction and it takes effort to turn.

Then, use the rotary clasp as normal. It works like an extra safety so that even if the clasp doesn't work, the pin doesn't fall off and get lost. You may have something like that around, or bead stores and sometimes jewellery stores will sell packs of spares. Or, buy a cheap pair of earrings at a dollar store - sometimes they have some just to keep them on the card.
