Does anyone know of a similar one anywhere out in the cosmos? I'm aiming for a size 4, 6 or 8.

Answer:
I think places like http://olivialuca.com/home/studio/ will copy dresses. If you poke around on IndieBride there are others discussing jcrew wedding dresses and similar options there too.

This is sure to be an unhelpful answer, but I'm going for it anyway: This looks like a relatively simple design for a wedding dress. Would you consider having it made (by someone on Etsy or a local seamstress)?

I feel like I recently saw it on an episode of "Say Yes to the Dress" which is filmed at Kleinfeld's in NYC. They kept talking about it as the "pockets" dress. However the price range might quite different..

Have you tried the http://pages.ebay.com/wantitnow/ thing? While it doesn't seem to've been sold recently, loads and loads of "NWT" J. Crew from previous seasons shows up on eBay. The blog http://jcrewaficionada.blogspot.com/ has a weekly "wanted" posting where you could mention it and hope to be hooked up.

According to this article about http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2010/09/20/100920fa_fact_paumgarten, the man answers ALL of his email from customers. Worth a try? If you like something and they don't make it anymore, he wants to know. Good luck! P.S. I agree; it is a beautiful dress.

http://www.theknot.com/profiles/jcrewbio/myknot/myOldBio/Index is a description of the dress pictured: Matelasse Cassia Gown Item: 90768 Color: Vintage Ivory Retail: $795 J. Crew Description: Italian cotton. Beautifully sculpted in cleanly textured matelassé from a luxury mill that supplies the best couture houses. Sleeveless silhouette. Fitted bodice, full skirt with allover box pleats. Scoopneck front and back. Natural waist seam. On-seam pockets. Side zip. Fully lined. Falls to floor; 45" from natural waist. Part of the J.Crew Collection. Import. Dry clean. Specially packaged in a custom-made box to ensure your gown is always as beautiful as the first day you wore it. Catalog/jcrew.com only. You could also call J. Crew's Bridal Boutique (http://www.jcrew.com/wedding/Wedding_Resources/faqs.jsp)--looks like the wedding specialists' number is 800 205 3877. Looks like http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WeddingParties/womens/forthebride/PRDOVR~90768/90768.jsp was the original link, but the http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WeddingParties/womens/forthebride/PRDOVR~90768/90768.jsp seems unhappy today. If there are other views, perhaps you could show these to a seamstress?

I just bought a used discontinued J Crew wedding dress online. You can search sites like oncewed or preownedweddingdresses.com, but this dress is probably pretty hard to find and these sites require constant checking. I found mine through a thread about J Crew wedding dresses on indiebride.com. I posted a request for a discontinued dress and didn't hear back for 7 months, but it was totally worth the wait. I also posted requests for my dress on discussion boards on marthastewartweddings.com and weddingbee.com, but didn't have any luck with these. I'd try the indiebride discussion board. The original post is old, but there are new replies all the time. http://70.32.88.134/kvetch/index.php?t=msg&th=3517&start=0&S=9dcdaee3c7b39627cd36c6858b4f393f

it's a super simple design. i third having it custom made for you.

That is a very simple design. There was a similar one made for little girls that I've seen. A tailor could easily copy the design with no trouble and for a lot less than it would be sold from a place like JCrew.
