Problem with google and outlook?

Outlook 2003 runtime error '4198' - wuzzat?

  • When I copy/paste documents into Outlook 2003 on the computer I got this week, I get a "Microsoft Visual Basic Run-time error '4198': Command failed". My go-to person for IT stuff is away, and whatever this VBS stuff is, I find google results to be over my head. Help? Using MS Office Standard 2003. I've already run the Detect & Repair tool, and I still get the problem. I used to be able to Copy/Paste PDFs, etc into an Outlook mail message and it would end up as an attachment. But I got a new PC and this error comes up now. In the window that shows me the error message, there are 4 buttons: Continue End Debug Help Continue and Debug are greyed out and don't do anything. Help doesn't help. End closes the error and the PDF or whatever DOES end up as an attachment. But the error makes me think that something's not set up right, or I'm missing some background component that makes it work. Any ideas?

It sounds kind of like it might be a problem caused by an add-in to Outlook (which you may or may not have installed yourself). Try running Outlook in safe mode? To do this, apparently, open it from the Start menu while holding the CTRL key. If it works in safe mode, then yeah, it's probably an add-in problem.
