Family attractions in Munich anyone?
-
Can anyone suggest good things to see and do for a young family visiting Munich this weekend for the first time? The sdevans family is taking it's first foreign trip since evans junior was born (he's now 14 months old) and we hope the budget flight will be ok. Do any mefites have any recommendations for must see and dos in Munich, involving only public transport / centre of the city, as we won't be renting a car. We have only previously done domestic trips during the summer months and like going to see zoos, farms, places with play areas etc, which may not be so practical in December. My wife will no doubt be interested in shopping and markets, but I would like to find something memorable for our little one to do too. Thanks in advance (PS: I've already copied the suggestions on a related question from a while back)

Easy: http://www.muenchen.de/Rathaus/tourist_office/veranst/christkind/88127/index.html#. (The Christmas Market in Munich). Opens tomorrow (the 28th), is very stroller-friendly, touristy, and you can buy some amazing Christmas items at great prices. Also, a wealth of different foods, wines, beers, candies, chocolates, etc... Santas, rides, carousels... Dress warm (http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/10866.html), bring cash (not a lot of credit-card/travellers checks options there - but Munich is an amazingly safe city), and have a great time!

The science museum (http://www.deutsches-museum.de/en/information/) was a BIG hit with all the kids I saw there last summer... apologies if that's already in the previous question.

We lived in Munich in 1999, and our son turned 2 there. We found the zoo to be very, very disappointing, but admittedly things could have changed since then. Seconding the Deutches Museum. Loads of fun, and we went back time and time again. The Biergarten at the Englischer Garten had a great little playground. The Hofbrauhaus is totally cheesy and touristy, but our son couldn't get enough of it! The band kept giving him little candies and he'd dance and dance and laugh and laugh. Have fun, I'm very jealous!
