what's your budget? this is a question you're probably going to want to answer in thread. if it's on the low-end, you can consider UO and anthro, though I don't recall either of them having extensive design offerings. E3 is in the same sort of range as urban -- it's an IKEA-type store. Not sure how many unique ranges they carry either. They have a location in the east bay -- right next to IKEA and some other home boutique shops. Unfortunately, that area is not particularly remarkable aside from the amount of "Big Box" stores concentrated in a single space. There are many boutique stores in 1) Pacific Heights (the Fillmore, specifically, has a Design Within Reach store and some other boutiques -- Shabby Chic, for example) has some high-end shops, and you might try 2) Hayes valley and 3) Noe valley. These are all nice places to stroll through and do other kinds of shopping as well, which is why I mention them. Personally, I think your best bet (if you have internet access) is to spend some time browsing through the . They mention a number of stores in the area and usually keep tabs on which ones are having sales. There is also a "store guide", although I haven't personally looked through it.
