How to create Site Directory in MOSS 2007?

Why Would a Site Still on DMOZ Disappear from Google Directory?

  • Why would a site suddenly disappear from the Google Directory? It's still in DMOZ...(mi) The site in question is a large pay-per-click merchant directory. It has disappeared from Google rankings (due to various errors on our part, which we’re working on) but we are truly puzzled as to why the site has disappeared from the Google directory. It’s definitely been in dmoz for quite a long time, and is still there, so it’s not an update issue. Any ideas?

  • Answer:

Content can be removed from Google's directories http://hacks.oreilly.com/pub/h/220 http://www.google.com/remove.html. Given the pay-per-click merchant angle, I'd say the owner of the originating content's a spammer, a pr0n/warez specialist, or a (likely) combination.

So since we're having trouble with the Google index, we would also be removed from the directory? Even though the directory is more or less a mirror of dmoz?

I would assume, though this is just guesswork, that because the directory includes things like rankings that there is some sort of back and forth between the index and the directory. When I used to work for Dmoz, it was always a good way to get sites "noticed" by Google. You'd add them to Dmoz and they'd get better Google rankings because Google seemed to somehow preference sites that were categorized. So, I assume if you've been removed from the Google index [as opposed to just not yet picked up by them] you'll be deleted from the directory as well.
