  • How do I connect PC to LCD TV in most basic and inexpensive sense...? I have Philips 42"LCD 42PF9996/37 with 1280x768 1080i res. Video INPUT: AV 1 : Audio L/R in, CVBS in, S-Video Y/C, YpBpR (1, 2, 3Fh) AV 2 : Audio L/R in, CVBS, S-Video Y/C, YpBpR or RGB-HV (1,2,3Fh) Connectivity Enhancements : Cinema Link Ext 1 Scart Ext 2 Scart Ext 3 Scart Other connections : Analog audio Left/Right out, Centre Speaker connection in, Subwoofer out Side : CVBS in, Headphones out, S-Video Y/C What Video card will work easiest for me? I am trying to buy good cheap video card for my ATX Celeron 2.0 / 256mb DDR /AGP/PCI to connect to the TV... basically a cheap HTPC.. (I don't need PVR or anything like that) I do need to play DVD from my PC to the screen. I need to play my avi or mpg files from the PC. maybe some music playing through the TV... some web browsing...etc.. No need to play games.. well may be some games like "StarCraft".... I do not want to mess too much with resolutions or buying expensive adapters.... but I would like nice quaility movies playing from my PC (mpg or DVD) I also need to know what cable or connector to use with this model of LCD TV and whatever the graphic card I get... I already have BrightHouse CableBox(some HD channels) I will greatly appreciate any ideas... I checked AVS forums and such.. but I am more confused than ever... most people seems to worry about PVR function ....I am not... I just want a straight forward use for my TV as a good PC monitor also... (p.s. i do have remote mouse and keyboard) Please check out my Philips model

A lot of video cards come with S-Video (Y/C) connectors, and are pretty good quality, and suitable for DVD. For HD-type quality, though, the best bet in your case would be to use the RGB-HV port and an http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/hdtv-cables.html#hd15rgbhv. Those cables should be (relatively) easy to find, as high-end CRT monitors have those RGB connectors. I bet you could find VGA to SCART cables, too, as SCART includes RGB. In order to play things like high-resolution games on your LCD, the RGB-HV is the way to go if you don't want text on the screen to become a blurry mess.

Thanks for quick insightful info.. I am such newbie in this area... so bare with me here... Is this mean I should get AGP ATI or Nvidia with normal VGA connector and use RGB HV to connect to where? also I am not familiar with SCART cable... I really like the info on not getting blurry texts... would this solution enable to use full res on LCD without cropping? I appreciate the help..

You really should have bought an LCD with a DVI input if you had this application in mind. That said, If your LCD TV has RGBHV Inputs(5 seperate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BNC_connector connectors), you can get cable that breaks VGA out to the RGBHV BNC plugs. VGA, essentially is RGBHV.
