How can I find out what music shows will be happening while I'm traveling around Europe?

How can I find out what music shows will be happening while I'm traveling around Europe? I'm not really looking for big arena concerts, but smaller venues where indie-type bands will be playing. In a month I will be meeting up with my girlfriend in Europe. She will already have been there for a month and a half, and I think she might enjoy doing something like this. We will definitely be exploring other types of night life, but I think this would be a fun diversion for both of us. Ideally, I'm looking for something like http://jon.luini.com/thelist/date.html. Not so much the style of music, but the way that the information is presented. A "best of upcoming shows"-type feature (the kind that usually run in the music sections of weekly metropolitan newspapers) would also work. I also remember seeing a recent web 2.0-ish site that had a map that you could click on to see what was going on in a given area, but I can't remember the url (or whether it was US-only or not) For reference, I will be traveling to these cities: London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo. I know the music scene isn't strong everywhere, but I figure I could at least find something worthy to go to in London and Stockholm, for instance.

There's sooooo many venues in London, it's difficult to know where to start. I don't know of any sites that have the listings you're after, but here's some other salient info. Carling (the beer company) own loads of venues and they have http://www.carling.com/music/gigsearch. Also try http://www.seetickets.com/ - they have a "this week" link on the bottom left of their home page. http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/ have an "on or after" date filtering function on their site. The http://www.meanfiddler.com/ also have a fair-few venues around London (http://www.meanfiddler.com/displayPage_borderline.asp?PageID=353 is a really great venue that hosts some fantastic gigs, with a capacity of just under 200, and http://www.meanfiddler.com/displayPage_astoria.asp?PageID=250 (capacity about 2000 but a great venue, especially downstairs), just around the corner, is an all-time fave of mine). Also have a look at http://www.barflyclub.com/whatson/search.asp?vn=2 - they tend to get good stuff. The (Carling) Brixton Academy is a good venue and gets some great acts, but maybe slightly larger than you're after (capacity, I'd guess, around 3,000). Good luck with the gig hunting - you're bound to catch something really good in London.

The Borderline The Astoria The Barfly Yes indeed, these are good London venues. Also http://www.meanfiddler.com/displayPage_garage.asp?PageID=358.

it's sort of all over the place-- not just music but all sorts of events-- but http://www.whatsonwhen.com/ could be a place to start. It does have the clickable map you mentioned.

Also try the http://upcoming.org/metro/uk/london/london/. If you have some favorite bands, check their websites to see if they're touring in Europe.

Forgot a couple: http://www.bushhallmusic.co.uk/ is small and has good gigs and http://www.spitz.co.uk/ has some good stuff on occasionally. If there's anything that tickles your fancy playing at http://www.unionchapel.org.uk/, then you should definitely go as it's a stunning venue.

There are tons of really good indie clubs in Berlin, but I couldn't find any comprehensive websites giving an overview over them in English. The official homepage of the city has an entertainment part with an event calendar though (http://www.berlin.de/english/entertainment/index.html) If you want to try your luck with German websites try http://www.zitty.de, it is the online version of a bi-weekly magazine with a focus on the alternative and off-scene in Berlin. If you could narrow down your musical preferences somewhat, I might be able to give you some specific club names too.

Thanks for all of the links, everyone. I'm going through all of these sites and see what's out there. I still haven't found any specific venues for Sweden though, so if anyone has a link or two that'd be great.

For Stockholm: Go to promoter http://www.luger.se/_turneoarr.asp and choose "Stockholm" in the dropdown menu under "Visa ort", then press "Sortera". You can also check ticket agency http://www1.ticnet.se/Start?changeLocaleTo=en_GB.
