In Firefox, How do I add download actions for filetypes it doesn't know about? Two related questions about download actions. I'm hoping they'll share the same answer. I'm on a Mac: 1) In Internet Explorer on the Mac there is a file helper preference pane that lets you add entries on how to handle file types it doesn't know about (http://web.infinito.it/utenti/m/malta_mega_temples/qtepiexp/instruc/expefh.gif). Is there anything like this in Firefox? I see there is an equivilent preference pane called Download Actions but there's no way to add new ones, you can only change and remove. 2) When i recieve a jpeg attachment in my Yahoo mail there is a button to download attachment. I click on it and Firefox displays a dialog box asking if it should save it or if it should open it in an application. How do I tell Firefox to just display the jpeg? I actually can choose Firefox.app as the application to open it and that works, but it seems redundant. Plus if i check the "Do this automatically for files like this from now on" it won't stick. The next time I download a jpeg from Yahoo mail it will bring up the same dialog box.

Answer:
Tools|Options|Downloads|View & Edit Actions To add a new action, wait until you try to download it. FF presets a "what do I do with this" dialog, at that point specify the application that should handle it. "When i recieve a jpeg attachment in my Yahoo mail there is a button to download attachment. I click on it and Firefox displays a dialog box asking if it should save it or if it should open it in an application. "How do I tell Firefox to just display the jpeg? I" Yahoo's not sending the right mimetype. No worries. Just specify that the handler should be Firefox by specifying it as you would any other app.

I have the same problem with Yahoo Mail and Firefox, and unfortunately, Firefox doesn't remember the mime setting for the mishandled mime type in Yahoo Mail. You'll encounter the dialog every time even if you set Firefox as the app handler in the dialog.

(Really wish Yahoo would fix this.)
