How do I add chat to my classic mail?

How do you add a friend to chat with on Google mail if you already have them in your contacts?

  All you have to do is hover your mouse over there name in your contacts list then a little box pops up with there picture in it. In that box at the top of that box you will see Email, Chat, Video and more. All you have to do is click on chat and type to them in order for them to see your chatting to them. If you have them in your contacts but never invited them to chat, then I think you won't find the little box with the chat option pop up. In this case, you will have to click on the 'Search, add or invite' space right over your name and status in the Chat. Type in their contact name or email address, and you will find a box with an arrow toward 'Mail' and then, 'Invite to chat'. Simply click on 'Invite to chat' and send the request. If they accept the request (which is possibly only if they are on a gmail account or an aim account), they may accept your request and you could begin chatting.
