Why can't I see my friend request on Facebook?

Is there a way to see who initiated the friend request between myself and a Facebook friend?

  • I am wondering if someone sent the friend request to my friend or if my friend sent the friend request to that someone. Is there any way to know whom of the two initiated this?

  • Answer:

Yes, if you plan ahead. I have email notifications enabled for friend requests and confirmations. That way, I can just search my email account and easily see when they requested me or they accepted my request (and which direction it was). Of course, the downside of this method is that it doesn't work retroactively. It is much easier and more convenient than manually keeping a separate journal of friend requests, though. I have email notifications turned off for everything else (I'm a fairly heavy user and get a lot of notifications), but I thought it was useful to satisfy my future curiosity about friend requests.

I think you can search your mail with the friends name. If you have a mail saying "XXX has confirmed that you're friends on Facebook." means you sent the request in the first place. If you find a mail which says "XXXX wants to be friends with you on Facebook." means they sent the request.

No, not between two other people. You can if one of the people is you. Your own friend requests are in your activity log, and if it says you became friends without you having sent a request, then the other person did.
