How does Stack Exchange's authorization works?

What are some mutually beneficial ways for Quora and Stack Exchange to cooperate?

  • Quora and Stack Exchange both fill important roles in the Q&A realm. I think they both compete with and complement each other. What are some ways where Quora and Stack Exchange could enhance the co-operation between them, that would benefit both communities and both companies? I'm asking specifically about how the companies behind Quora and Stack Exchange can cooperate, not about possible actions by individual users (for example, cross-posting). Has this been discussed?

  • Answer:

I'm not sure this would be a good idea. Some of the questions about programming that I've seen on Quora would be crimes on Stack Overflow. (imagine asking 'what are the best social media practices?' on Stack Overflow) I'm sure for the other sections of Stack Overflow it is the same.  Fundamentally, Stack Overflow is all about fact. The primary question is 'How can you prove that?'. On Quora, it's more so about opinion and debate. 'why do you believe that?' is a more common question. The two sites are not, as I see it, interchangeable. Both have roles in the online Q&A world, but as I see it, it won't happen. Furthermore. There is a lot of talk of integration between Quora and Google/Wikipedia. Again I think Stack Overflow in particular is much more suited for this kind of integration. I can't comment fully on how well Stack Exchange overall would fit in with them two websites.
