What do you know about a Major in Business Marketing?

Knowing what you know now, would you have focused more energy on writing your business plan or your marketing plan in starting your business?

• ... and no, a marketing plan is not simply a subset of your business plan, though they are related.

  I would opt out of writing traditional business or marketing plans because in my opinion, they are largely a waste of time. Instead I would create a Business Pitch Deck (10-12 slides) and an Execution Plan with specific actions and milestones. The first milestone is almost always Proof of Concept at which point the assumption is that you would have spent some marketing dollars to show that you have some traction i.e. you are solving someones need. This is the most convincing measure of success for investors. Note: My assumption is that you are trying to raise investment dollars.
