How to clear Media Storage app data programmatically?

What is the best personal media and data storage solution?

I'm formerly tech savvy, and now that I am 5 years out of date, I would love help on the optimal personal data storage system system that is scalable, secure, cheap, etc. I'm looking for probably 5TB today, and am open to physical HDDs on my desk, cloud storage, etc. I would love to ability to access my files remotely and also stream video, music, etc. Please be specific - I'm gonna buy this.

Personally, I opted for a Synology DS1812+ (new model is https://www.synology.com/en-us/products/DS1813+ ) I chose this because it had many power user features I wanted to play with and because of its hybrid RAID configurations; it also had good expandability. If you are after 5TB now, I'd probably recommend the 5 bay model (DS1513+).
