What do you have to do to become a good architect?

What are some good resources that can help me become a Technical Architect?

  • I am a Team lead for web development and my goal is to become a technical architect in the next 1 year. I have around 5+ hands on experience on web dev. My current job is not technically challenging. It is the Team management part that I am interested to work with. But, my long term goal is to be at Technical Architect. What are the resources that I can utilize to help me achieve this goal? What would you suggest how I should go around to become a TA?

  • Answer:

It sounds more like you want to be a project manager than a technical architect. That said, I would recommend becoming more knowledgeable about the server side of things - system administration, physical infrastructure, and database management.  Being a Technical Architect is about knowing both the coding and the system side of things so you can understand the full picture end to end.

Other answers

Well, I am interested in team management right now from soft skills perspective. I would want to have a good set of management skills as a technical architect. A lot of technical people are good with technology but lack at soft skills. Also, I think it depends on the company and technology for which you want to be technical architect. I am into web and I would want to be able to architect the front end flow of a web application.
