What made John Proctor say " I say God is dead" and what does he use as evidence?

Answer:
In the late 1800s the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche stated 'God is dead' in 2 of his major works. While some have taken this to be a literal statement about the God of Christianity dying, it is more accurate to see it as a statement on morality. Nietzsche was stating that as belief in God falters, humanity must find a new moral guide. He believed a 'will to power' was the only moral guide left to people.
