What Is Repack Game?

Other than influencing who its opponent will be 6 days later, what is the significance of the UCLA v. Stanford football game, on November 24, 2012 in Pasadena, to UCLA?

• If one presumes UCLA would rather play Stanford in the Championship game  (instead of Oregon), what motivation, if any, would UCLA have to show  its cards and try to beat the Cardinal on November 24th? If Stanford wins that game, Stanford goes to (and hosts) the Pac-12 Conference Championship game against UCLA.  If Stanford loses that game, Oregon would control its destiny but Stanford could still go to the Championship game if Oregon St. beats Oregon earlier that day.  But what is the significance of the game to UCLA, other than if it wins it could play Oregon instead of Stanford in the Championship game?   Will winning the game benefit UCLA in some way other than that?   e.g. If UCLA wins the game, does it automatically host the Championship game? If it loses, does it automatically play away? e.g. If UCLA wins, but loses the Championship game, it would not go to the Rose Bowl (unless Oregon somehow manages the national championship game, a dim possibility) -- but it would have a shot at going to another bowl game.  How might those chances be affected?  In the event UCLA doesn't go to the Rose Bowl, does the Stanford game matter at all?

  A 10th win ties the school record for wins in a season Stanford is a minor in-state rival, so it's always nice to beat them If UCLA loses it has to play at Stanford, but if it wins and Oregon loses, the Pac-12 Championship game will be at the Rose Bowl Throwing the game against Stanford would suggest that UCLA is afraid of Oregon, which isn't a message any team wants to send If UCLA doesn't win the Pac-12 title game, a win against Stanford would likely improve its bowl placement
